Remember
Although this has not been shown in clinical study, in case of dark skin, the skin may darken further before it lightens.
Avoid organising the treatment just before or after a vacation. This is because it will be difficult to avoid the sun exposure or your skin may have had excessive sun exposure.
Ensure that you have all products and sunscreens that you wish to use to nourish and protect your skin ready and available at home before you come for treatment. This will avoid risk of unnecessary exposure and will also allow you to concentrate on and enjoy your skin recovery.
PRECARE
6 MONTHS PRE-CARE
There should be a minimum of 6 months gap between any oral intake of isotretinoin and the procedure.
MINIMUM 24 HR PRE-CARE
Do not opt for excessive sun exposure or sun burns in the 24-hour period pre-procedure.
Do not use topical retinoids in the 24 hours pre-procedure.
Do inform the clinic of any active breakouts or open lesions because the procedure will not be carried out. Please rearrange procedure.
Do allow a minimum of 24 hours between any autoimmune therapies and the procedure.
30 MIN PRE-TREATMENT
Depending on your own pain threshold, you may choose to apply a topical anaesthetic with 5% Lidocaine to the treatment area.
‘Emla’ is a numbing cream and is available from most chemists. Please ensure that you have organised a tube of the numbing cream ahead of the treatment day to avoid the risk of a pharmacy having run out of stock on the day.
AFTER CARE
Your skin has been deliberately traumatised so that it can start producing collagen and elastin. We would like to help the skin to concentrate on this process without giving it additional factors or irritants to deal with too.
It is recommended to avoid any products which are not declared safe following the procedure as they can cause unexpected complications.
72 HRS POST PROCEDURE
Do use the provided ‘Lift’. The skin may feel itchy, flaky and/or dry. ‘Lift’ will help with these issues by hydrating the skin.
Do not opt for sun exposure in this period and also avoid sunscreen. Since you will not be in the sun you will not use any sunscreen.
Do not opt for exercise; heat and perspiration are irritants to treated skin.
Do not opt for sauna, steam room, other exfoliants, any other treatments to the treated area. This will give it time to heal.
In the next 48 hours
Do use the provided ‘Rescue’ and also any left-over ‘Lift’.
Do minimize sun exposure, if you cannot avoid it altogether, in this period. If you are to be exposed to the sun, sun screen should be worn (SPF factor 30 minimum.)
